Mental Health & Wellness Navigator Intern
The Mahogany Project’s Odyssey Initiative is seeking a Mental Health and Wellness Navigator Intern to support community members in accessing affirming mental health and wellness services.
This role is designed for a passionate advocate who is eager to bridge the gap between mental health resources and Black TQLGBIA+ communities, with a focus on holistic well-being, advocacy, and accessibility.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Navigation and Support (40%)
Assist in connecting Black transgender, gender-nonconforming, and intersex individuals with affirming mental health providers.
Maintain a comprehensive directory of mental health professionals, clinics, and wellness services, ensuring accessibility and cultural competency.
Facilitate peer support and mentorship programs that create safe spaces for discussing mental health challenges and sharing coping strategies.
Community Engagement and Outreach (30%)
Participate in The Mahogany Project’s mental health and wellness events, including organizing project informationals.
Conduct outreach to community members to promote available mental health resources and programs.
Assist in organizing wellness workshops and discussion groups focused on mental health education and self-care practices.
Advocacy and Digital Awareness (30%)
Support social media and digital campaigns that highlight mental health awareness, including stigma reduction and wellness advocacy.
Collaborate with the communications team to create informative content on affirming mental health practices.
Contribute to research and reporting on the mental health disparities impacting Black LGBTQ+ individuals.
Qualifications
Passion for mental health advocacy, LGBTQ+ wellness, and community support.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to engage diverse community members.
Knowledge of mental health and wellness language, wellness practices, and affirming resources.
Some experience in social media engagement and digital content creation is a plus.
Comfortable working with Black TQLGBIA+ communities and discussing topics related to mental health, wellness, and advocacy.
Structure & Benefits
Location: Hybrid role based in Houston, TX, combining remote work with in-person outreach.
