Gender Justice & Joy Outreach Intern

Become an intern for The Mahogany Project in the Gender Justice & Joy Outreach position, a dynamic hybrid role intended for those eager to effectuate meaningful change in Black TQLGBIA+ communities.
This internship integrates the dynamism of street outreach and pop-up event organization with behind-the-scenes preparation, providing a comprehensive experience in community activism.
Key Responsibilities
Street Outreach (60%)
Represent The Mahogany Project at pop-up events, fairs, and community gatherings, providing contraceptive items, mental health information, and other resources.
Engage with community members by distributing educational materials and resources related to reproductive justice, gender joy, and The Mahogany Project's initiatives.
Facilitate on-the-ground awareness campaigns and conversations about sexual health, mental wellness, and affirming spaces for Black TQLGBIA+ individuals.
Administrative & Program Support (40%)
Assist with planning and coordinating pop-up tours, including scheduling, logistics, and volunteer management.
Support event promotion through social media, flyers, and community outreach channels.
Document outreach activities, collect community feedback, and contribute to post-event evaluations to improve future initiatives.
Qualifications
Committed to reproductive justice, gender equity, and community advocacy.
Comfortable engaging with diverse populations, including Black TQLGBIA+ communities.
Robust communication and interpersonal abilities, along with a capacity to cultivate significant dialogues.
Self-motivated, organized, and adaptable in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
Availability to work evenings and weekends, as needed for events and outreach.
Structure
This is a hybrid internship based in Houston, TX. It combines remote administrative work with in-person outreach and event participation. Reliable transportation is required for travel to community outreach sites and pop-up events.
